Tancho Kohaku – A True Symbol of Elegance

Tancho koi are instantly recognizable for their single red (Hi) marking on the head, making them one of the most sought-after varieties. The name "Tancho" comes before the variety, resulting in names like Tancho Kohaku, Tancho Sanke, and Tancho Showa. Traditionally, Tancho describes a perfect red circle, but the term is now widely used to refer to any distinct head marking, even in other varieties like Tancho Ochiba, which features a brown spot.

Kohaku, with its pure white (Shiro) body and bold red (Hi) patterns, is one of the most beloved koi varieties. In fact, the most expensive koi ever sold was a Kohaku, fetching an astounding $1.7 million! As part of the prestigious Gosanke group, alongside Sanke and Showa, the Tancho Kohaku remains a prized choice among koi collectors and enthusiasts.

We personally travel to Japan to select each koi from the finest breeders, ensuring that only the highest quality fish make their way to the U.S. Our collection includes a wide range of premium koi, carefully chosen for their beauty and health.

Before shipping, every koi undergoes a four-week quarantine period, during which we conduct detailed health screenings, including slime coat swipes and parasite checks. If necessary, treatments are provided to ensure each fish arrives in peak condition.

• Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
• Koi Fish only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
• For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
• You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable.
