Ginrin koi are known for their sparkling scales, which have a reflective, metallic sheen resembling glitter. These unique scales, called "ginrin," give the fish a distinct and eye-catching appearance, especially when they catch the light. The term "ginrin" translates to "silvery scale," reflecting the shiny quality of these scales.

Maruten refers to a specific pattern found on the head of a koi fish. A Maruten koi has a distinct round mark on its head, often resembling a crown or a spot. This mark is typically surrounded by a solid base color, such as red (hi), black (sumi), or white (shiro), which further emphasizes the circular pattern. The term "Maruten" comes from the Japanese word for "crown" or "circle on the head," highlighting the defining feature of this koi variety.

Sanke - (sawn-kay) : White (Shiro) Koi with red (Hi) patches and black spots throughout the body. The black spots should be on the top of the body and not extend past the lateral line. Occasionally black stripes will be on the fins or tail. It is part of the Gosanke Group along with Kohaku and Showa.

All of our koi are hand-picked in Japan and brought back to the US. We choose from the best breeders and offer a wide variety that include every variety we can get our hands on. All of the koi are quarantined for a minimum of 4 weeks, during that time we perform slime coat swipes and various other tests to check for any parasites/illnesses and medicate as necessary. • Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
• Koi Fish only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
• For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
• You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable.
