Tancho Kohaku – A Timeless Symbol of Beauty

Tancho koi are easily recognized by their single red (Hi) marking on the head, a feature that makes them highly sought after. The term "Tancho" comes before the variety name, so these koi are called Tancho Kohaku, Tancho Sanke, or Tancho Showa. While the traditional Tancho marking is a perfect red circle, the term is now widely used to describe any distinct head spot, even in other varieties like Tancho Ochiba, which has a brown marking.

Kohaku, with its pure white (Shiro) body and bold red (Hi) patterns, is one of the most revered koi varieties. The most expensive koi ever sold was a Kohaku, reaching an astonishing $1.7 million! As a key member of the elite Gosanke group, alongside Sanke and Showa, the Tancho Kohaku is a must-have for serious koi enthusiasts.

Before shipping, all koi undergo a strict four-week quarantine process, during which we conduct comprehensive health screenings, including slime coat swipes and parasite checks. Any necessary treatments are provided to ensure they arrive in top condition.

• Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
• Koi Fish only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
• For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
• You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable.
