Maruten Kohaku (co-hah-ku) – A Crown Jewel of Koi

The Maruten pattern is a distinctive feature where a round, well-defined mark appears on the koi’s head, often resembling a crown. This spot is typically set against a contrasting base color, making it a striking focal point. The term "Maruten" comes from the Japanese word for "circle on the head," highlighting this koi’s unique appeal.

Kohaku, known for its bright white (Shiro) body and bold red (Hi) patches, is one of the most prized koi varieties. In fact, the most expensive koi ever sold was a Kohaku, fetching an astonishing $1.7 million! As part of the elite Gosanke group, along with Sanke and Showa, Maruten Kohaku remains a top choice among serious collectors.

Before shipping, each fish undergoes a four-week quarantine period, where we perform detailed health checks, including slime coat swipes and screenings for parasites or illnesses. If needed, treatments are provided to ensure optimal health.

• Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
• Koi Fish only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
• For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
• You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable.
