Cryptocoryne retrospiralis is a distinctive freshwater aquarium plant prized for its long, narrow, gently twisting leaves that create a graceful, reed-like appearance in planted tanks. Unlike round-leaf Cryptocoryne varieties, this classic “water trumpet” adds vertical movement and a natural riverbank feel to aquascapes. Native to river and stream habitats in India and Bangladesh, Cryptocoryne retrospiralis thrives as a midground to background plant, typically reaching 8–15 inches tall depending on conditions. Its slender foliage provides depth and structure without overwhelming the layout, making it ideal for layering behind shorter crypts or in front of taller stem plants.

This hardy, low-maintenance Cryptocoryne grows well in low to moderate light and becomes a stable, long-term feature once established. As a root-feeding plant, Cryptocoryne retrospiralis benefits from nutrient-rich substrates or regular root tab supplementation, especially in sand or gravel setups. Growth and coloration can improve with stronger lighting and iron support, producing tones that range from green to bronze-brown. Like many crypts, it may experience temporary “crypt melt” after planting, but new growth quickly adapts and rebounds under stable conditions. • Koi Fish and Live Plants only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
• For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery are not eligible for free shipping. There items will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
• You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Return shipping cost are covered by the customer and some items returned will result in a restocking fee. Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable.
