Samolus parviflorus ‘Red’, also known in the trade as Lysimachia parvifolia, is a striking and increasingly popular aquarium plant prized for its vibrant coloration and compact growth habit. Originally collected from the limestone karst regions of Guangxi, China, this once rare collector’s plant is now more widely available thanks to large-scale cultivation. Despite its trade name “Samolus Red,” it is distinct from the North American green Samolus species, offering a unique visual appeal with its rich red to orange hues. Under high lighting, this plant forms tight, rosette-like clusters of rounded leaves, making it an exceptional midground focal point in aquascapes.
This hardy and adaptable plant is relatively easy to grow, thriving in a wide range of water conditions, including both soft and hard, alkaline environments. For best results, provide moderate to high lighting—around 150 µmol PAR—to achieve deep red coloration, while lower light levels will result in more subdued orange or green tones. CO₂ injection (10+ ppm recommended) and a nutrient-rich substrate will promote fuller, more vibrant growth, though the plant remains tolerant of lower CO₂ setups. With a moderate growth rate, Samolus parviflorus ‘Red’ requires minimal pruning and is easy to manage. It naturally produces side shoots for simple propagation, and can also be trimmed and replanted like a traditional stem plant, making it a versatile and rewarding choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

- Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
- Koi Fish and Live Plants only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
- For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery are not eligible for free shipping. There items will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
- You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Return shipping cost are covered by the customer and some items returned will result in a restocking fee.
- To receive a refund for Live Plants, you must email ecommerce@fitzfishponds.com with the image of the item in the original packaging for review.
- To ensure Live Plants have the best chance to arrive without issue, it is recommended to select next day air or two day shipping options.
- Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable. Should you have any questions or concerns when your fish arrive, please call 908-420-9908.
