Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) is a fast-growing floating aquatic plant perfect for ponds and water gardens. With soft, velvety rosettes of light green leaves, it provides natural shade that helps reduce algae growth and offers shelter for koi and other fish. Water Lettuce also improves water quality by absorbing excess nutrients and nitrates from the pond.

Water Lettuce Planting Information:

• Gently place Water Lettuce directly onto the surface of the pond—no soil or planting is needed.
  
• Avoid submerging the crown of the plant; only the roots should be in the water.
  
• Ensure your pond gets full sun for best growth.
  
• Ideal for calm waters—avoid placing near waterfalls or strong currents.

Maintenance Tips:

• Thin out overgrown plants regularly to prevent overcrowding and maintain proper oxygen levels.
  
• Remove any yellowing or decaying leaves to promote healthy growth.
  
• In colder climates, Water Lettuce is not winter-hardy and should be removed before the first frost.
  
• Best used during late spring through early fall in USDA zones 9–11 (annual in cooler zones).

We ship all aquatic plants Monday through Wednesday via Next-Day or Two-Day Air to ensure they arrive fresh and healthy. If you have a preferred delivery date, include a note at checkout.

• Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
• Koi Fish only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
• For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
• You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Used chemicals and fish food are not returnable. In addition, all sales on Japanese Koi are final and non-refundable.
