Jan Mizak joined the Fitz’s Fish Ponds team in 2022 and has quickly become an integral part of the Colts Neck retail location. As Assistant Retail Store Manager, Jan is known for his dedication to customer service, his ever-growing knowledge of koi and pond care, and his ability to connect with hobbyists both in-store and online. He regularly assists with fielding customer inquiries through FFP’s online live chat and phone support, offering advice grounded in personal experience.

Originally from Woodbridge, NJ, Jan moved to the United States at the age of five and has lived in the area for over 21 years. After high school, he earned certification as a Computer Network Support Technician, but quickly realized the roles available didn’t match his interests—most involved fixing printers, which he found particularly frustrating. He explored several different jobs before finding his way to FFP. Having first visited the store as a customer, he was drawn to the friendly and knowledgeable staff and decided to apply.

Jan has a deep passion for koi and pond keeping. At home, he maintains a 2,100-gallon pond housing 12 koi, including his prized 25" Shiro Utsuri, Clarissa. Clarissa spent over a year in Tank 3 at the Colts Neck location before Jan brought her home, having personally measured her at 20 inches when he purchased her. Through consistent care, he’s helped her thrive. Jan handles all his pond maintenance himself, including full spring cleanings, which he believes keeps his skills sharp and strengthens his ability to relate to customers—especially when recommending products he uses personally.

Outside of work, Jan is an avid video game enthusiast with a personal library of over 215 games—all of which he has completed. He’s also deeply fascinated by outer space and hopes to one day experience zero gravity and view Earth from orbit through space tourism. At home, he enjoys spending time with his family and raising dogs, especially his beloved dog. Jan’s enthusiasm, authenticity, and hands-on experience make him a valued member of the Colts Neck team and a trusted resource for pond owners throughout the region.
