Fitz’s Fish Ponds Imports 50,000 TOSAI from Japan!
This March, the Fitz’s Fish Ponds team imported 50,000 tosai koi from Japan! This is one of the largest amounts of koi ever to be imported into the US. Over 500 boxes of koi were unboxed and released into our stock tanks at the FFP Farm in Milford, NJ. According to Brian, “All of the koi came to us in great condition. Now they are in their quarantine period as they acclimate to their new environment.”
The FFP Team is very excited about this particular shipment because we now have the largest quanitity of koi as well as the most variety. We can confidently supply a customer with just about any variety or size koi they are looking for. On the recent Japan trip, Brian, AJ & Ryan visited and bought koi from the top breeders in Japan including Marusei, Shintaro, Shinoda, Maruhiro, Iwashita, Marusada, Chogoro, Hiroi, Masaki Aoki, Marusho, Torazo, Hiroi Seji, and more. 
These 50,000 koi came to us in 2 separate shipments, one on March 15 and the other on March 22nd and none of this could be possible without the help of Masaru Saito, Kosuke Saito and those at Shintaro koi farm. We are especially grateful to Kosuke who boarded the plane and made the trip to the FFP Farm from Japan after loading all of the koi. He then helped our team unload at the JFK airport and then unbox the fish at our facility. He was up the next morning bright and early monitoring their health as they adjust. Brian says, “I love getting to host our friends from Japan. When we go on our trips, the Saitos treat us like family and it is great to get to return the favor. We are so happy to host Kosuke here at the FFP Farm for a few weeks!” 
Another great thing about our shipment days is that it brings so many people from our industry together, from people who love koi and are hobbyists to customers who have fish on the shipments to people who follow the hobby and create content on youtube, like George Mavrakis also known by his handle, “Coralfish12g”. George flew in to make a video about how a large koi shipment like this happens and how the team plans for it, preps for it and executes it.
