ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL KOI TRIP TO JAPAN FOR THE 54TH ALL JAPAN KOI SHOW!
Apr 22nd 2024
Apr 22nd 2024
Fitz and the Koi Trips team recently returned from their most recent Koi Trip to Japan, featuring the renowned All Japan Koi Show, one of the most prestigious events in the world of koi. Held at Tokyo Ryutsu Center on January 27th and 28th, 2024, with judging taking place on January 26th, this event attracted 81 judges who meticulously evaluated entries for the titles of Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion.
The judging process involved multiple rounds, beginning with the selection of four nominations, all bred by Sakai Fish Farm. Subsequent rounds narrowed down the contenders until the Grand Champion was ultimately decided. Mr. Alexander Romashchenk’s 95bu Kohaku claimed the coveted title of Grand Champion, while Mr. Ryuhei Tanaka’s 95bu Taisho Sanshoku was honored as Reserve Champion.
Beyond the excitement of the Koi Show, the team had the opportunity to explore Tokyo, immersing themselves in its vibrant culture and attractions. One notable visit was to The Art Aquarium Museum GINZA, an extraordinary exhibit showcasing artistic tanks housing an array of goldfish species. Additionally, the team experienced the thrill of Sumo Wrestling, a highlight of January’s entertainment calendar in Japan.
Returning to the mountains, the team resumed their mission of sourcing high-quality koi and visiting breeders at the koi houses. This provided an invaluable opportunity to reconnect with customers who may have missed out during the Fall Harvest trip and secure exceptional specimens to bring back to the USA.
Despite the focus on business, the team carved out time for leisure, treating themselves and their customers to sightseeing excursions. A particularly memorable experience was a visit to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, where they observed Snow Monkeys bathing in the hot springs up close. AJ Mandell, Director of Koi Sales and a talented photographer, captured stunning images of this unique encounter.
To add to the adventure, the team indulged in some snowboarding amidst the picturesque snow-covered landscapes of the Yamakoshi mountains, taking advantage of the excellent conditions for winter sports.
TOM’S FIRST KOITRIP
For Tom Swinarsky, Retail Manager of FFP Colts Neck and FFP New Hope, his first trip to Japan was a dream come true. Having achieved his annual goal for koi sales the previous year, Tom was invited by Fitz to experience the intricacies of koi selling in Japan firsthand. Reflecting on his experience, Tom expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity to immerse himself in Japanese culture, deepen his understanding of koi and the hobby, and forge connections with breeders. Eager to share his newfound knowledge with customers, Tom looks forward to enriching their koi-buying experience this spring.
