Eriocaulon breviscapum “Feather Duster” is a rare and highly sought-after aquarium plant prized for its ultra-fine, hair-like foliage and elegant, flowing form. Believed to originate from the Indian subcontinent, this unique species stands out from similar varieties with its incredibly narrow leaves (just about 1 mm wide) arranged in a delicate spiral pattern along the rhizome. Over time, it forms a dense rosette cluster, creating a soft, feathery texture that adds exceptional depth and movement to any aquascape. Its graceful leaves can reach over 12 inches in length, swaying naturally in the current for a truly dynamic, lifelike appearance.
Despite its exotic look, “Feather Duster” is relatively approachable in terms of care. It thrives under medium to high lighting and does not require a nutrient-rich substrate, making it versatile for a variety of setups. Nutrients can be effectively supplied through the water column, and while CO2 injection is not mandatory, it significantly enhances growth and overall health. As the plant matures, propagation is simple; just divide the clump and separate individual shoots to expand your layout or share with others.
In aquascaping, Eriocaulon “Feather Duster” is an excellent alternative to narrow-leaved background plants like Vallisneria gracilis, offering an even finer texture that enhances perspective and scale. Its soft, flowing leaves create a natural, immersive feel, especially when planted in groups. When grown in shallow aquariums, it may even produce striking, head-shaped inflorescences with delicate gray-white flowers that emerge above the water’s surface. Whether used as a focal point or to complement other fine-leaved species, this rare plant brings sophistication and movement to any planted aquarium.
Shipping & Returns
- Free Shipping is valid for orders with a subtotal exceeding $199 and all orders will be shipped via UPS. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm will ship the following day. Items purchased for delivery after 3pm on Friday will ship Monday.
- Koi Fish and Live Plants only ship Monday- Wednesday. For orders placed after 3pm on Wednesday, the order will be shipped the following Monday.
- For Motor Freight (LTL) Shipments, oversized or heavy items unsuitable for traditional parcel delivery are not eligible for free shipping. These items will be dispatched through a motor freight carrier, as indicated on the product page. Once the carrier receives your order, they will reach out to arrange a delivery time. An individual aged 18 or older must be present to sign for the delivery.
- You may return or exchange an unused or unopened item for a refund (excluding shipping and handling charges) within 30 days of purchase. Following 30 days, the item may be returned in exchange for a store credit. Return shipping cost are covered by the customer and some items returned will result in a restocking fee. - To receive a refund for Live Plants, you must email ecommerce@fitzfishponds.com with the image of the item in the original packaging for review.
- To ensure Live Plants have the best chance to arrive without issue, it is recommended to select next day air or two day shipping options.
