Breeders Specializing In Ginrin Hi Utsuri Koi Fish:

Shinoda

Ginrin Hi Utsuri koi are one of the boldest and most visually dramatic varieties in the koi world. Featuring a deep glossy black base layered with intense red or orange patterning, these fish already command attention before their reflective scales even come into play. Once sunlight hits the Ginrin scale pattern, the entire koi begins to shimmer with a diamond-like sparkle that adds movement, texture, and brilliance across its body. The result is a koi that feels powerful, fiery, and impossible to overlook in the pond.

As a member of the Utsurimono family, Ginrin Hi Utsuri begins with black as the foundational color. The red pattern wraps through the body, often creating flame-like or ladder-style movement that extends onto the head and down toward the nose. That darker base gives the variety a much heavier and more dramatic appearance than koi that place black markings over lighter skin. When paired with strong Ginrin sparkle, the contrast between the black sumi and glowing hi becomes even more intense.

At Fitz’s Fish Ponds, we appreciate Ginrin Hi Utsuri for the way they combine raw visual strength with elegant reflective detail. The best specimens show a balanced distribution of black and red across the body, along with evenly spaced rows of sparkling Ginrin scales from shoulder to tail. Their appearance also continues evolving over time, especially as the sumi develops and shifts with age, water quality, and seasonal conditions. Watching a Ginrin Hi Utsuri mature can be one of the most rewarding experiences for collectors who enjoy koi with movement and personality.

These koi are also admired for their presence in ponds and their strong contrast in mixed collections. Their rich black-and-red tones stand out beautifully against lighter koi varieties, while the Ginrin scaling adds brightness, keeping the fish feeling dynamic in sunlight. With proper filtration, stable water quality, and quality nutrition, Ginrin Hi Utsuri can grow into large, impressive koi with lasting beauty. If you want a fish that brings sparkle, intensity, and dramatic visual impact to your pond, browse our selection below and find the right Ginrin Hi Utsuri koi fish for your collection today.
